The Student Museum: an evening event designed by and for students

The Student Museum (MDE) is THE unmissable event at the Nantes Museum of Art. Organized for over 10 years, this free event invites students to take over the museum for a special evening, engaging directly with the works and collections.

For one evening, the museum becomes a place for expression and creativity: offbeat tours, original mediation, theater, dance, music, sound performances, mini-concerts, participatory workshops...
All disciplines are welcome, regardless of field of study.

The Student Museum is your evening, your ideas, your view of the museum.

A collective and supported project

Every two years, a call for entries is launched in December and open to all students.
The selected projects then receive personalized support from the museum's Public Services team, in collaboration with its partners, until the event takes place in late March/early April.

The museum works in collaboration with the Culture and Initiatives Department of Nantes University, as well as with student associations and student unions in the region, to support and promote the selected projects.

Until the next edition...

Would you like to participate in the 2026 Student Museum?

Projects may be led by a student association, a group, or an individual student. Each proposal must designate a student representative who is currently enrolled in a degree program and who will be responsible for implementing the project and liaising with the museum teams.
Projects must be accessible to all audiences, be related to the museum's collections, and comply with standards for visitor reception, safety, and conservation of the works. Several forms of expression are possible, such as music, theater, dance, original tours, or participatory workshops.
A fresh, sensitive, or original perspective on the collections will be particularly appreciated during the selection process.
Projects will not be considered if they have no connection to the museum's collections, if they pose a risk to the works on display, or if they contravene the principles of secularism and decorum.
