The Endowment Fund's first exhibition
A special relationship has bound this artist to the Musée d'arts de Nantes since 2014: on this date, and following the exhibition Présenter l'irreprésentable - Alain Fleischer, Jean-Jacques Lebel et Danielle Schirman that the museum organized at Hangar à Bananes, the Fonds de dotation Jean-Jacques Lebel, bringing together part of his personal collection, deposited nearly 130 works with the museum.
Itinéraires is the first presentation of the Fonds Jean-Jacques Lebel at the Musée d'arts de Nantes, and offers a portrait of the "artist-collector".
My approach is indeed that of a collector. It's an attitude nourished by friendship, exchange, chance and a lifetime's work. He sums it up this way: It's an autobiography.
From the evocation of the great founding encounters with André Breton and Marcel
From Duchamp to the defense of contemporary artists such as Carmen Calvo and Arnaud Labelle-Rojoux, Itinéraires brings together ensembles representative of Lebel's interests and commitments as a collector. The art of assemblage and the Fluxus spirit predominate in these works, often created by friends or artistic companions brought together during the many events orchestrated by Jean-Jacques Lebel ( Anti-Procès exhibitions, Festival de la Libre Expression, Polyphonix international festival...).
Among the artists represented are: Ben, Erik Dietman, François Dufrêne, Erró, Allan Kaprow, Gherasim Luca, Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Frédéric Pardo, Daniel Spoerri...
With over 900 works in its collection, the Jean-Jacques Lebel Endowment Fund is also celebrating the reopening of the Musée d'arts de Nantes with generous loans of works to its permanent collections.
