« AIR, LIGHT AND TIME »

Commissions from contemporary artists for the Patio are one of the hallmarks of the museum and are a distinctive feature of the institution’s identity. To mark the reopening of the venue to veteran and first-time visitors, the museum has selected Susanna Fritscher, whose work focuses specifically on architecture and light, to design a project in the Patio space.

The specially created work will reflect the way in which the reopened museum will be embraced by all. Susanna Fritscher’s work aims to offer a fresh perspective on spaces via art which interacts with architecture.

The artist is renowned for her minimalist and ethereal interventions, which enter into a dialogue with the spaces they occupy. For this project, Susanna Fritscher is experimenting with a new medium, transparent silicone thread, which vibrates and catches the light. Her design fills the space, emphasizing it and filling it with light, to prompt visitors to find vantage points and move around.

A sound sculpture will accentuate the four galleries at each corner of the Patio and transform the passageways into a listening environment. This installation offers an immersive experience in which the relationship with visitors creates an element of tension. The installation, sound art and sculptures reveal a sensitive body of work playing with transparency, air and light.
